Your Vermont Representatives and Senators are almost halfway through the 2-yr biennium. They will return to Montpelier next Tuesday, June 20th “to determine whether they will override or sustain the vetoes issued by the governor” (WAMC). See also: McClaughry: The possibly “historic” veto session.
Governor Phil Scott (R) vetoed a number of bills this session, including one that would have authorized pharmacists and technicians (who are not doctors), to administer C19 and Flu shots to youngsters (H.305). The official reason given for the veto of this bill (which we opposed) was because it could limit opportunities for military professionals; the bill raised licensing fees, making living and working in Vermont yet more expensive.
Bill S.151, which would be HUGE rainmaker for big pharma and people who administer shots, but hazardous to our children and families, has thankfully not moved. The language in this minor-consent bill is not explicit; this is probably intentional. The bill’s sponsor likely does not know that ‘minor consent’ bills like this are cookie-cutter from big pharma and friends which are being opposed all over the country. S.151 contains language that would authorize vaccination of children without parental consent (the specific language begins on page 16 proposes to allow a minor 12 years of age or older to consent to medical care for the prevention and/or treatment of a ‘sexually transmitted infection’ – this means 3xHepB and 3xHPV shots, and HIV pills, and opens the door for even more).
In short: The Vermont Legislature has not focussed on vaccine policy this session. However, the industry appears to be trying to pass bills to further enhance corporate profits at the expense of families, health and choice , this time proposing vaccination of children without parental consent. Thanks to the 1986 Act there are no legal repercussions for adverse outcomes, which occur at an alarming rate! Parents Beware.
S.151 remains in the VT Senate Health Committee through 2024. Contact your elected legislators.
